2017 Scholarship Opportunity

Who We Are  Donegal Chapter of Trout Unlimited (DTU) is a nonprofit organization committed to conservation and the restoration of cold water streams in Lancaster County.  With more than 700 members, DTU administers a number of programs and projects.  To accomplish its work, the Chapter looks for Community partners and is happy to be working with the Pennsylvania Dutch Council of the BSA.

Program Opportunity  For a number of years, DTU has been supporting a unique program run by the Cumberland Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited.  Now 23 years old, this co-ed program is open to students between the ages of 14 and 17.  The purpose of the camp is to educate students in the importance of cold water conservation. Only 32 students will be selected to attend.  Wide ranging classes include principles of ecology, entomology, watersheds, and the effects of humans on the Chesapeake Bay.

There are opportunities to fish in the famous Yellow Breeches.  Sessions include casting, knot tying, fly tying, and advanced fishing. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a conservation project to repair habitat in a stream.

When  Camp dates are June 18-23, 2017.  Early application deadline is March 31, 2017.

Where  Campus of Messiah College in Grantham, PA. Students will stay in the college dorms and eat in the campus dining hall. Messiah College was named one of the 10 most beautiful colleges in the north.

Cost  DTU provides several scholarships to cover the $400 fee, which includes tuition, room and board.
