The Boy Scouts of America have determined that National Rifle Association certification will be the standard training required for all BSA Shooting Sports Activities.
Courses are offered through the Council Shooting Sports Committee. Course information will be posted below as it becomes available.
NRA Range Safety Officer Training
Who: Adults aged 21 or older
What: A training to become an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer (RSO). Training includes the role of an RSO, range operating procedures, range inspections, rules, safety, emergency procedures, handling firearm malfunctions, and range safety briefings.

Online NRA Range Safety Officer Training
Prerequisite-Participants must already be a certified NRA Instructor in any discipline or appointment as an NRA Coach. Individuals who do not meet this prerequisite must take the in-person course.
The NRA is now offering an online training course for its Range Safety Officer program. Combining instructional screens with audio narration, the course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations from the comfort of your home.
Upon signing up for the online course, Students have 24/7 access to the program and electronic course materials for 90 days. The course does not need to be completed in one sitting and will save progress if a student exits and returns later.

NRA Basic Instructor & Rifle Instructor Training
The NRA Rifle Instructor Training Course will certify a candidate (upon successful completion) as an NRA Rifle Instructor. Certification as an NRA Rifle Instructor will qualify an individual to help run BSA Rifle Ranges and serve as a Merit Badge Counselor for Rifle Shooting Merit Badge.

The NRA Shotgun Instructor Training Course will certify a candidate (upon successful completion) as an NRA Shotgun Instructor. Certification will allow individuals to run BSA Shotgun ranges and serve as a Shotgun Merit Badge Counselor. This course will be combined with an NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) Course.
