Lititz, PA, November 20, 2025 – The Pennsylvania Dutch Council, Scouting America held its annual Scouting for Food drive on the first two weekends of November. The food drive, organized by the council and carried out by Scouts and volunteers, spanned across both Lancaster and Lebanon counties. Over the course of the drive, Scouts collected over 150,000 lbs. of donations and delivered them to local food banks, churches, and community pantries.
Scouting for Food is a national Scouting America program that many councils across the country participate in. Collectively, Scouts gather hundreds of thousands of pounds of shelf-stable goods for disadvantaged residents of their local communities. Scouting for Food takes place on two consecutive weekends. On the first weekend, Scouts distribute door hangers and/or bags to let their neighbors know about the drive. On the second weekend, Scouts revisit those houses to pick up full bags of canned food, cereal, pasta, and other nonperishable items.
Since 2020, the Pennsylvania Dutch Council has collected around 650,000 lbs. of donated food across communities in both Lancaster and Lebanon counties. This year, our dedicated Scouts and volunteers came together with their communities to add roughly 150,000 lbs. of donations to that number. “The efforts of the Scouts this November have truly exemplified their commitment to helping their local communities. In a time when many families are dealing with food insecurity, the generosity of those who donate and the Scouts who collect and distribute the items, make a substantial impact for those in need” said PA Dutch Council Executive Matt Klutzaritz.
Scouting for Food is a reminder that Scouts are here, doing their good turns for their communities. While this year’s drive is over, people can still donate to their local food banks and help make a difference, just like Scouts do. Remember to keep an eye out next year for the 2026 Scouting for Food drive!
