BSA’S Youth Leadership Training Continuum

The BSA is committed to developing youth into tomorrow’s leaders.  To do that, the BSA has developed a comprehensive youth leadership training continuum. Youth leadership training starts with Introduction to Leadership Skills at the unit level, progresses to National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) offered by local Scout councils, and culminates with the National Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE) offered nationally at the BSA’s High Adventure Bases. The most important leadership training youth receive takes place through continual coaching and mentoring by the unit leader.

Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops, Crews, or Ships

Introduction to Leadership Skills courses are specific to each type of unit. These courses are designed to be run in partnership between the unit’s adult and youth leadership to teach youth leadership their specific role and responsibilities within their specific units.
